Ekaterina Begicheva was educated as a conductor, so she talks about design from the position of a musician: “A small space is afraid of “discord”. In order to achieve a sound in unison, uniformity is important both in materials and in forms”” She designed this apartment for her son, whose tastes and needs she knows thoroughly.

Alexander is a professional DJ, and although he works with headphones most of the time, sometimes he still arranges parties at home where he puts on music, so the designer took care of the presence of a spacious common area and good sound insulation.

COLOR AND ART

Ekaterina chose the color scheme in accordance with the shades that her son prefers in clothes — gray, black, cream and all shades of green. The latter also has a calming effect on Alexander, which is especially important after nights in clubs. “In a limited space, I prefer to use deep, dark shades, they visually blur the boundaries,” the designer shares. —Another technique is large—scale paintings or art objects that work perfectly in contrast to a small area”” In the living room, she hung an impressive-sized work by Dmitry Sultanov from the Art Brut Moscow gallery, it became one of the main color accents in the room. The second bright object is a carpet with the image of circles, which also became a reference to the topic of DJING.

The living room occupies half of the apartment and is divided into two zones — sofa-TV and work, where there is a large table with a DJ console. There are two large windows in this space, so there is a lot of natural light in the living room during daylight hours. There are a lot of vintage furniture in the apartment, but this concept was born thanks to the lamps. “I saw round sconces that reminded me of the turntables of a DJ console,” says Ekaterina. “They come from the 1980s, and we decided to add various items from that turbulent era to the apartment.” The armchair with sage-colored upholstery was already in the family collection and fit perfectly into the atmosphere, Alexander often sits in it, and this feels like a generational connection. But the desktop is new, it was made to order. The specifics of the DJ’s work are such that a lot of wires come out of the music console, and they must be hidden from prying eyes.

The owner of this apartment likes to cook, so he has a full kitchen. To fit all the necessary cabinets and all kitchen appliances, the designer used a nook with a dining table against the wall. Inside this niche there is a refrigerator, and above it there is a comfortable mezzanine.

BEDROOM AND BATHROOM

Alexander wanted a “master bedroom” with a private bathroom and dressing room, and in order not to visually reduce the space, Ekaterina suggested making a dressing room with glass walls – provided that it would always be in order. The bathroom turned out to be so spacious that it could fit not only a double sink and shower, but also a comfortable laundry room.

“There should be no ”surrogate” materials in a budget interior, for example, imitations of expensive marble or rare veneer, only authentic objects,” says designer Ekaterina Begicheva. — And when choosing furniture, it is better to pay attention not to recognizable mass-market items, but to small furniture workshops. Having made an order according to individual sketches for the right size, you will get the best result that will delight you for a long time””
