Elena Solovyova and Ilya Klimov from Art Bureau 1/1 came up with an interior in which everything is tied to the play of light.

I really want to say that in the previous works of Elena Solovyova and Ilya Klimov there was not even a hint that one day they would have such a concise, black-and-white photo-like interior. On the other hand, they have always done such different projects that their unpredictability itself began to be perceived as a corporate signature. This is what Elena says: “Clients do not come to us with a specific request, they want a joint understanding of the space. We are interested in a dialogue in which you learn something new. And if there is such a dialogue, then there is such a drive and buzz in it!”

The windows decided everything here: the customer liked the views of the alleys around the Patriarch’s Ponds, and the designers were fascinated by the light pouring out of them. “The windows look on different sides, and during the day incredible shadows appear in the apartment”” says Elena. The hostess turned out to be a strict and organized person – a circumstance that also contributed to the image of the apartment. So it turned out to be a space where everything is subordinated to showing this play of light, without being distracted by unnecessary details.

Minimalism actually requires complexity – otherwise it will be boring and lifeless. The perfectly rendered walls of the apartment are decorated by Alyona Vilyukova in a mixed technique — with the help of paint, varnishes and wax, the artist achieved an effect that Elena Solovyova calls vibration. “We didn’t need beauty and mother—of-pearl, but cloud cover,” she clarifies. When there are few items, textures come to the fore. The steel pedestal in the living room seems prickly, although in fact it has an absolutely smooth surface; the console stretching across the room is built on the contrast of polished concrete and wood; the marble wall in the kitchen creates a pair with the graphic work of Ekaterina Rozhkova, which depicts a detail of some mechanism. “It was not decorative, but the tactility of the materials, their temperature regime and reflective features that were important,” says Elena. — This is a task that seems simple in the picture, but requires a very deep dive””

Inside this apartment, unexpected in itself, there is a big surprise — a bedroom with photo wallpapers. The authors of the project call this image differently – a panel, but the similarity with the golden groves that “decorated” the walls of Soviet apartments lies on the surface. However, this is not an ironic look at the past, but the result of a rather long search — no wonder Elena compares work on the interior with hunting. We needed a design option that expands the space, and initially the designers wanted to put an abstract graphic drawing on the walls, but it turned out that their customer does not like abstractions too much. So a photo work by French artist Alain Bublex appeared in the project, which was framed taking into account the arrangement of furniture and brought out by color so that the image did not look flat. And the plot here is telling, to match the whole interior: the main thing is not the trees, but the light that pours from the depths of the photo.
