Smooth lines, tactile materials and all shades of white in the new project of the bureau Asthetique.

In the most popular “restaurant” district of Moscow, not far from the Patriarch’s Ponds, a new establishment of Arkady Novikov has opened — the Onest restaurant. Alina Pimkina-Merle, Ilya Mozgunov and Julien Albertini from the bureau Asthetique designed a calm and sensual interior with a variety of textures and delicate shades of white.

“The design of Onest is a reaction to a noisy, overcrowded environment that is cluttered with digital and material excesses,” explains Pimkina-Merle. —In the interior of the restaurant, we wanted to create a peaceful atmosphere for calm reflection, distraction from digital reality, conscious choice, reflection on what surrounds us and who we are.”

The concept is reflected in the material palette of the project. The central place in it is occupied by milky-white plaster, which covers the walls, ceiling, built-in shelving, panels and partitions. Its watercolor surface perfectly emphasized the smooth outlines of arches and oval internal windows, the monumentality of the partitions zoning the hall, the tactility of rounded corners. The shape, shade and texture of the walls help to gently distribute the flow of sunlight that penetrates through the huge windows of the restaurant.

The designers contrasted the smooth plastered surfaces with rough sandstone pylons, which are installed along the open kitchen, and the floors were covered with parquet board with asymmetrical marble inserts. All contrasting elements of the interior coexist in perfect harmony: for example, the strict geometry of faceted columns, floor finishes and window covers peacefully coexist with the biomorphic shape of the mirror, rounded chair backs and architectural elements of the restaurant. Monochrome space does well without flashy art objects – they are replaced by beautifully framed greenery framed by windows.
